Highlights include 4* hotel, goft & country club located in Peebleshire countryside, Peebles, Tweed Valley, Dawyck Botanic Garden, Moffat, Southern Uplands, St Mary's Loch, Abbotsford, Kailzie Gardens, Melrose Abbey, Floors Castle, Northumbrian National Park, Harrogate.

SUNDAY
After morning pick ups and refreshment stops en route we will travel through the stunning NORTHUMBRIAN NATIONAL PARK and REDESDALE FOREST before crossing the border into SCOTLAND at CARTER BAR. At the end of the afternoon we will arrive at the CARDRONA HOTEL, GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB****, our base on a half board basis for the duration of this holiday. The hotel is located in the beautiful PEEBLESHIRE COUNTRYSIDE, a glorious part of the Scottish Borders bisected by the River Tweed and containing some of the most stunning landscapes in Scotland. Built in 2003, the hotel offers luxurious furnishings, state of the art facilities and superb view of the TWEED VALLEY and RIVER TWEED. All bedrooms have views over the hills, large comfortable beds, luxury en-suite bathrooms with separate bathtub and shower, satellite TV, complimentary mineral water, iron and ironing board, trouser press, broadband internet access, large desk, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and comfortable armchair. The hotel has two bars, a restaurant, a Championship Golf Course and a HEALTH CLUB comprising 18 metre swimming pool, sauna, steam room and TechnoGym.

MONDAY
Morning free in PEEBLES described as a 'genteel, handsome town on the River Tweed' where there is parkland with pleasant riverside walks, while the wide high street has a mix of Victorian architecture and many fine buildings. In the afternoon we visit DAWYCK BOTANIC GARDEN, one of the world's finest arboreta boasting some of the tallest trees in Britain, as well as exotic conifers and the unique Dawyck Beech. Set amidst a picturesque glen DAWYCK BOTANIC GARDEN is renowned for it's autumn colours when the garden foliage bursts into vivid hues of red, orange and gold.

TUESDAY
Today we start with a scenic drive through the SOUTHERN UPLANDS to MOFFAT, an attractive 19th century spa town, with a 'double' High Street and a wide variety of specialist shops, cafés, restaurants and bars. After free time for lunch we will continue our drive past ST. MARY'S LOCH to ABBOTSFORD where the house, garden and landscape are the creation of SIR WALTER SCOTT. Our visit will include a guided tour of the house after which you will have free time to enjoy the extensive grounds, walled garden (one acre), the orangerie and woodland walks.

WEDNESDAY
The SCOTTISH BORDERS are famous for their textiles and this morning we are visiting LOCHCARRON OF SCOTLAND, who weave and stock the world's largest range of authentic Scottish tartans. They boast over 700 tartans in stock. Lochcarron have kilted numerous celebrities from Sean Connery to Shrek! We have arranged for a tour of the mill which will show you all aspects of production from spinning the yarn to the finished article. Our afternoon visit is to KAILZIE GARDENS, occupying a beautiful position on the RIVER TWEED and surrounded by magnificent hills. Features of the garden include a wide variety of mature specimen trees, a walled garden, greenhouses, a wild garden and a burnside walk.

THURSDAY
Morning visit to MELROSE ABBEY, a magnificent ruin on a grand scale with lavishly decorated masonry. It was the burial place of ROBERT THE BRUCE'S heart, now marked with a commemorative stone plaque. The rest of today will be spent at FLOORS CASTLE, home to the Roxburghe family and the largest inhabited castle in Scotland. The house has 365 windows, one for every day of the year. The woodland and riverside walks offer beautiful views, especially during the autumn months, and are also home to red squirrels.

FRIDAY
Our journey home today will take us back across the border, through the delightful NORTHUMBRIAN COUNTRYSIDE and following a coffee stop en route, our lunch stop will be in HARROGATE. With refreshment and comfort stops as required we expect to be back in Colchester at 8.00p.m. approx.

Price includes 5 nights half board accommodation with private facilities, all admissions, luxury coach travel throughout, all luggage handling and the services of an experienced tour manager.
